Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
SEND Provision
Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo): Claire Miller
At Kedington Primary Academy, we have high expectations of all children and believe in participation for all by removing barriers to learning.
We want all adults and children to participate in learning and we celebrate all members of our community. We strive to create an inclusive culture in our school and to be responsive to the diversity of children’s backgrounds, interests, experience, knowledge and skills.
We value high quality teaching for all learners and actively monitor teaching and learning in the school. We also aim to create a learning environment which is flexible enough to meet the needs of all members of our school community.
Staff continually assess and monitor the progress of all our pupils regularly to enable us to identify any gaps in their learning and intervene early. We understand that early intervention and working with families is crucial to enabling children to be successful in school.
In line with the Code of Practice, we make reasonable adjustments for children with SEND and put appropriate interventions in place to enable them to be successful.
There are many different types of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and often needs can co-exist.
There are four broad areas of SEND, these are:
- Communication and Interaction
This area of need includes children with Autism Spectrum Condition and those with Speech, Language and Communication Needs - Cognition and Learning
This includes children with Specific Learning Difficulties, Moderate Learning Difficulties, Severe Learning Difficulties and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties - Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
This includes any pupils who have an emotional, social or mental health need that is impacting on their ability to learn - Sensory and/or Physical Difficulties
This area includes children with hearing impairment, visual impairment, multi-sensory impairment and physical difficulties
