Welcome to Tigers!
Our teachers are Mrs Murray and Mrs Dearman. Mrs Norden is our learning support assistant and Mrs Lind also supports in our class.
The transition from Reception to Year 1 is always a big one, but we have been so impressed with how the Tigers have adapted to new rules and routines and with the growing independence they demonstrate in their learning.
A typical day in Year 1 starts with a handwriting exercise and, once registration is completed, we move swiftly on to our daily phonics sessions. After this, we have English and then we have assembly before we head out for breaktime. After break, we have maths, followed by a short PSHE session or a handwriting task.
Our afternoons often begin with another short phonics session that focuses specifically on blending and segmenting words and then we spend the rest of the afternoon on our wider curriculum subjects – science, history, geography, art, DT, music, PE or RE. During the afternoon, we usually have an afternoon break and take part in the daily mile before finally ending the day with a story.
PE takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The children should come to school dressed in their PE kits on these days.
Please bring in your reading folder with your reading books and learning log every day. New books are distributed every Monday. If your child finishes their book, please continue to read it each day and focus on fluency, expression and any mis-pronounced words. You could also ask your child simple questions about the book.
All homework is set via Showbie. Subject Knowledge Organisers and weekly spellings can be found here too. Spellings are tested each Friday and new spellings are set then too. Please ensure that our red homework books are brought into school every Friday.
If you need to get in touch, please send us a message via dojo and we will try to get back to you as soon as we can
