Welcome to Kittens class!

Our teachers are Mrs Riley on Mondays and Tuesdays and Ms Kirby on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Our teaching assistants are Mrs Bradnam and Mrs Cannon.

Kittens are the Reception children at Kedington and our mission is to help the children enjoy their first year at school and to promote a love for learning at an early age.

A warm welcome to Kittens class.

In Kittens we believe the children must be happy and comfortable in their surroundings in order for them to fully blossom.

To help them reach their full potential, we encourage the children to try their best, challenge themselves and to ‘have a go’ at things they would perhaps not usually try. We support the children to become more independent, whether that is getting dressed for PE, doing their own zips up or writing a recipe or a letter.

Throughout the year, we slowly introduce activities and timetable changes to help with a smooth transition from Reception into the Year 1 Tigers class.

The Kittens timetable constantly changes and evolves depending on the needs and interests of the children. A typical day has some direct teaching: a phonic session, a Maths Meeting, a Talk for Writing session and a story. The rest of the day is learning through child initiated activities and the adults in the class are there to support and progress the child’s learning.

We use EExat to share the learning and progress of the children with parents, as well as Class Dojo for day to day messages.

Currently we are conducting Baseline Assessments to gauge what the Kittens know and can do as they enter our Reception class. Once this is completed, a weekly update with pictures and an overview of the learning that week will be posted on EExat for parents to read with their children and prompt any discussions about school.

Once Phonics is established, Reading books will be changed on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Children will be getting changed for PE on a Wednesday and taking part in another Movement session on a Friday. Please make sure PE kits are in school for then.

Funky Fingers will take place on a Friday. This is a series of fun activities to build up their upper body strength (gross motor skills) and finger/hand strength and control (fine motor skills).
